Part 6

"Ah!" Jessie gasped as Giles applied an ice bag to her black eye.

"I've never seen anyone get so many bruises and still manage to keep going!"

"Slayer's gotta be tough," both Buffy and Jessie said at the same time.

"You gotta be tough if you wanna handle being beaten up like that!" Xander quipped.  Again.

Jessie groaned in frustration and muttered, "Pare por favor con los gracejos, orelhas de los elefantes"

"Huh?" the teenagers asked.

"'Please stop with the jokes, Elephant Ears. '" Angel translated.  The girls giggled and Xander shot them annoyed looks.  "Hey!"

"Judging by the hour, and the appearance of you three," Giles said, interrupting their 'Make-fun-of-Xanderfest', "I think you should all be going home and get some sleep.  It's been a long day."  The teenagers all nodded.

"Cordelia, can you take Xander and Willow home?" Buffy asked.

"No prob.  Come on, I've got cheer-leader practice tomorrow," Cordelia said to the other slayerettes, walking to the door.

"Okay.  Bye Buffy.  Bye Angel.  Bye Jessie.  Bye-" Willow was yanked through the door by the couple, interrupting her goodbyes.

"And I meant you too," Giles said, turning to the remaining three.

"We know," Buffy insisted.  She and Angel started out, but were stopped by Jessie.

"Wait.  Uh, Giles . . ." The slayer dug around in her pockets and found what she was looking for.  Pulling out the leather wallet, she took out several photographs, and handed the wallet to the watcher.  "Freddy . . . wanted you to have this.  Kind of his 'last wish'. "

"Oh-" Giles opened the wallet and pulled out a piece of paper, written by Fredrick himself.

Dear Rupert-
All is well.  Jessie's growing to be quite the slayer.  And quite the talk-back.  One day you'll have your own slayer.  I received a letter from the council.  It appears you didn't send your change of address to them again.  It said to make sure you get ready, since your slayer will be activated in a few years.  It doesn't say who it is though.  That's classified information.  I'd better be off, I'm taking Jessie off for a hunt.  Until next we talk,

Your friend,
Fredrick Sommerton

Giles wiped away a tear at the memory of his best friend.

"T-that was the last letter he wrote.  Like . . . two hours later he wasn't there any more," Jessie said, her voice cracking slightly and close to tears.

"Thank you very much.  I'll cherish this. " The slayer smiled brightly, wiping the tears away, and walked to her cousin.

"Come on, I wanna get home so we can talk slayer stuff.  Plus I wanna know how the hell one of the most powerful vamps in the world suddenly went soft and fell for a destroyer of his kind!"

The librarian watched as the three walked out, Jessie's voice trailing down the hall.  He turned, shook his head and set the wallet down on the counter. "As much as it pains me to admit, Xander was right.  I *am* going to have trouble with those two. . . "
