Part 2

Dru woke Saturday evening and went to find something to eat.  She didn't want to feed off a human, but she had to find something.  She decided to go back to the mansion and gets one of the meals that Angel kept.  She watched for a while and when she saw Buffy and Angel leave.  She waited for a few minutes more and then entered the mansion through an open window near the kitchen.  Dru grabbed one of the meals and pulled an extra out for Sunday.  She knew that she had to find a way to get something so that she wouldn't want to start killing again.  Dru remembered how Angel had restocked his supply and decided to find herself a room to rent with a refrigerator so that she could do the same, but for now the two meals that she had would have to do.  She quickly slipped back out of the mansion unseen and returned to where she had set her bags at.  After placing the spare meal inside, she went to a motel that had a kitchenette added to it.  She rented a room and went inside.

The room was not as clean as she would have liked, but it would have to do for now.  She still had her savings from when Spike and she were killing.  Spike, she hadn't thought of him since the day he seen her fight.  She wondered what he was up to, more than likely trying to kill the slayer still.  She slowly shook her head, smiling.  'That is one thing that I can't even see doing now.  I wonder what he would say if he knew that for all these years, he was with a slayer who wasn't trained.  Boy wouldn't that be funny, the look on his face when he finds out.  Well, I'll keep an eye on her, and help both her and Angel out.  I just have to be sure that they don't find out about it.  I'll buy some cleaning supplies and clean this place up tomorrow.  I'm going to put the money Spike helped to steal to a good use.  I guess I am on my own again.  I hope that Angel doesn't worry about me.  I know that he still has a father's love for me, but I can't stay close to them right now. I need to work things out.  I will let them know when I decide what to do from here.  Well, time to eat and to register at the blood bank for future meals.'  She sat down and ate her food.  When she finished, she headed to the same place Angel had told her about when she first accepted her soul.  She was glad that like the room she rented, that it too was on the outskirts of town.  She couldn't bare to face Buffy and Angel right now.  The news of her past was disturbing enough, without adding the problem of whether or not this was a temporary change.  Dru was going to make sure before she let them know where she was.

Sunday evening, Dru found a little market that was still open and bough cleaning supplies to fix up the room she rented.  She also found a clothing shop and bought a few different outfits that she hoped would make slaying a bit easier.  As she picked out the clothes, she tried to make sure she could move easily in them.  After her little shopping spree, she returned to her room without any confrontations with other vampires.  She was also able to avoid running into Buffy and the others.  Dru put away the jeans and t-shirts that she had bought, then went and put up the cleaning supplies.  She called and had about a week worth of meals sent to her room.  They were to be delivered within the hour.  She thought that she had everything set and started to clean the kitchen first.  As she finished up, there was a knock on the door.  She went to answer it, and was greeted by the delivery driver.  She paid for the delivery and went to put them up.  Dru was glad that things were going smoothly for now.  She hoped that it would continue this way.  It took about another 4 hours, but Dru finally got the room cleaned the way she liked it.  It was only then that she sat down to eat.  She had also purchased a notebook and pens on her shopping spree.  Once she finished eating, she pulled them out and started to write.

June 6,1999
Dear Diary,

I haven't done this in years, but I just feel that I need to start again.  A lot has happened since I did this last.  First of all, I am a vampire.  I was changed quite a few years ago by a vampire named Angelus.  He tried to drive me crazy by killing my family, my sister last.  I miss her, Little Anne.  I kept her doll, Miss Edith.  I don't have it here though.  It is still with Angel.  I know that it is safe there.  Angelus is no more, he has a soul now.  He just goes by Angel, now.  He has been trying to help me since the changes.  I miss him.

I am not with Spike either.  Spike is the vampire that I have been with for a real long time.  He loves me, but I no longer love him.  Kind of crazy, huh?  Well, he did make me strong again when I was weak.  I never really thanked him for that, of for being there as long as he was.  He found me when I returned to Sunnydale.  I was hoping that I could avoid that, but it happened anyway.  He knows that I've changed now, I'm certain of that much.  He saw me fighting along side of Buffy and Angel.  I don't know what he is going to do, but I have a feeling sticking by me now would be out of the question.

I have been changing.  When I was changed, the music started.  I think that it came from the demon that took over.  It made me want to kill and destroy without mercy or remorse.  A few months ago, when Spike returned to Brazil to find me, I found that it was changing.  As the music changed, so did my habits.  I quit killing and only fed to stay alive.  I stayed with Spike trying to figure out what was wrong, but I couldn't so I returned to Sunnydale.  Once here, I found someone to help me, quite a few someones actually, Willow, Giles, Angel, and Buffy.  They found out what was causing the changes, and returned my soul to me.  I am glad that they gave me a chance.  I could have done it without their help.  I'm still trying to deal with the changes, and I need some time to decide on what to do.  I can either try to return to the path of a slayer, or I can just be what I am now, a vampire who can't kill.  I just hope that writing in this works.  I remember one thing that I had heard mentioned by Giles that started this writing thing.  He mentioned a watcher's diary, and a slayer's diary.  Well, I figured that if I chose to follow the path of a slayer, might as well start one now.  Well, I'm going to go now, I should rest.  Night.  Dru

Dru laid the notebook on the table near the chair she sitting in. She felt a little bit better after writing in it. Dru decided to give things some time to work them selves out.  She wasn't sure if she would go back to being evil or not.  She would contact Angel and Buffy once she had worked out what she was going to do.  Angel was right about one thing that he had told her though.  The soul she had accepted didn't make life easier, it did make it harder.  The guilt she felt was bad enough, but to find out she had turned away the person who could have saved her all of this trouble, that was the worst.  If she had only taken the time to listen to Miss Howe with her heart, instead of her head, life would have been easier.  But then, she wouldn't have known that her family's killer was punished, and she wouldn't have met such nice people as Willow, Giles, and Buffy.  Dru suddenly felt tired and went to lay down.  She changed quickly and crawled into the bed.  She fell asleep easily that night.

Sunday evening, Buffy found Angel in the park near the lake looking at the moon's reflection in the water.  She snuck up behind him quietly like he had done to her so many times in the cemetery while on patrol.  She placed her hands over his eyes, and whispered, "hello, lover" in his ear.  Angel half-smiled and said, "you really should make some noise or something when sneaking up behind a person."  Buffy laughed.  She walked around the bench to face him.  He reached out and hugged Buffy to him.  He loved her and wanted her to know it each and everytime he saw her.  As she returned the hug, he knew that the feeling was mutual.  Buffy finally pulled away from him.  She looked into his soft brown eyes and smiled.  "I told you I'd be ok.  Now it's time to patrol, just as planned.  Have you had any sightings yet?"  Angel shook his head.  "None, not even of souled ones, well, unless you count me. You?"  Buffy shook her head.  She knew that Angel was trying to find out if she had seen Drusilla recently.  She could hear the slight sound of concern in his voice for her.  Angel watched Buffy for any sign of emotion that she was upset with him for his concern about Dru.  The only thing he found was understanding in her beautiful hazel colored eyes.  He was glad that he had found someone who was so understanding, and caring.

They headed to patrol with an unspoken agreement that the cemetery should be their first stop of the evening.  Buffy and Angel walked hand in hand towards the cemetery, both lost in thought.  It had only been a few days since Dru had left the mansion, but it seemed like weeks.  The attacks by Spike had been relatively normal, a few fledglings here and there.  There was nothing out of the ordinary there.  Buffy and Angel had no problems dusting them.

Angel walked Buffy back home that night.  She told him that her mom would be back in town tomorrow, so she would have to be careful again.  He nodded knowing that she would much rather her mom not return for a while longer.  Buffy was always worried that her mom would be hurt or injured while she was out on patrol.  Buffy hid these feelings well, but he knew that they were there all the same.  She unlocked the door and went in after sharing a goodnight kiss that would have left him breathless, if he could breathe.  She closed the door and went upstairs to follow her normal routine of writing in her diary, then going to bed for some rest.

Angel waited till he seen her light go out in her room before he headed to the mansion.  He couldn't believe the luck that he had with finding someone as understanding as Buffy was.  He was lost in thought as he walked, but he felt that he was being followed.  He didn't show that he knew, but he did push his thought to the back of his mind.  He become more alert for a possible attack.  Angel finally got tired of the games after about a mile and turned to face his follower.  He recognized him immediately.  "Spike, what do you want?  I don't feel like playing games right now."

Spike smiled and lit a cigarette.  "Well, mate. It appears that you've taken something of mine.  A certain lady friend, you could say.  I want her back. I saw her fighting along side of you and your girlfriend the other day.  I don't like that.  She is not supposed to be joining you, she's supposed to be with me.  If you have done something to her, I'll make you little Rebecca of Sunnyhell Farm pay for this.  Now just tell me where to find Dru, and I'll get out of your lifes.  If you don't, well, I'll just have to see if I can't change your mind."  Spike watched Angel for any signs of an attack.

Angel just smiled at him.  "You still can't keep her satisfied, can you?  You think that she came to me for nothing?  She came back to Sunnydale for a reason, and I would bet that seeing you wasn't it.  Dru isn't the same anymore.  I would venture to say that you haven't spoken with her since that night that you attacked Buffy.  Well, rest easy, Spike.  She isn't at my place, or anywhere around here.  I haven't seen Dru in the last couple of days.  I couldn't tell you where to find her.  You will just have to locate her yourself.  You can still do that, can't you?   Or have you lost the ability to do that kind of thinking too?  Now if you will excuse me Spike, I have a place to be.  Goodnight."  Angel turned to leave, when he seen the look of shock cross Spike's face.  He knew that the shocked vampire wouldn't be following him any time soon and he wanted to get to the mansion before that wore off.  Angel got to the mansion without further incident.  Spike left and went to the factory when he saw Angel walk off.

Once at the mansion, Angel walked around the library looking at the books. He was restless and wanted to find something good to read.  He liked The Hobbit, but Dru had started reading it and he wanted to leave it there for her should she return.  He sat down and couldn't decide on a book.  He had a lot on his mind and it was making relaxation very difficult to find.  He finally pulled out a notebook and started writing trying to get things in order in his mind.  He wrote for about an hour, and then closed it and put it back in his desk.  He finally decided that he should head to bed.  The sun was starting to peek over the horizon, and he had nothing else to do at the moment.  Buffy would be by later on that evening for a visit.  He wouldn't be much help to her without any rest.  Angel headed to bed, and paused as he passed Dru's room.  He looked in and tried to memorize the look that she had created in there in the short time she stayed with him recently.  He was afraid that he would lose her to the demon again and that the softness that was here now would be destroyed.  He turned away from the room and went to his.  He would find out where she was and why she left.  He had a feeling that the answers he sought were there, hidden in that room somewhere.  Angel made a promise to try to find the time to go over every change that Dru had made in her room and to try to piece the puzzle together.  As Angel laid down, he fell into a restless sleep with the questions he had playing on his mind.
