Part 6

Buffy, Angel and Giles arrived at the library after sunset.  Giles had pulled out a few weapons and put them on the table.  He didn't know what Dru was going to say to them, but he wanted to be ready.  Angel was quiet and stayed near Buffy.  He was concerned about the safety of Buffy and Giles.  They were nearly ready for her arrival when they were attacked by a group of vampires that had gotten in through the stacks.  The vampires quickly surrounded the trio and cut them off from their weapons.  A fight broke out, but with 12 on 3 the odds were against the trio.  Buffy, Angel and Giles fought back but they were quickly losing the battle.

Dru arrived at the library about 5 minutes after the attack started.  She was armed with just one stake, and not really dressed for slaying.  As she watched, she saw her friends were totally out numbered, and knew that she would have to even the odds.  She looked around for a way to distract a few of the attacking vampires.  She saw a locker that was still standing wide open.  Dru walked over to it and slammed it.  She then backed away from it and down the hall a little ways out of sight.  She was going to split up however many came after her, and take them out one by one.

Everyone in the library heard the locker slam, and four of the attacking vampires went to investigate, since the slayer and her friends were losing anyway.  They entered the hall and looked around.  Dru opened and closed a classroom door that she was near.  The vampires split up and tried corner their trapped victim.  Dru watched this happen, and waited quietly in the doorway across the hall from the one she had closed.  Two of them were the first to show up.  She wondered where the other two were, but didn't see them.  She quickly caught the first one in the back with her stake dusting him.  His partner spun around and looked at her.  He smiled when he realized who it was.  "Drusilla, Spike told us that you were helping the slayer, but I didn't believe it.  You think you can just go back to the past?  She'll kill you when you're least expecting it.  Spike will get you back he says.  It's all he's talked about for weeks, that he was giving you time to get this crazy slayer notion out of your head."  The vampire watched her.  He was buying time and Dru knew it.  She got closer to him and smiled.  "What makes you so sure I haven't already made a decision about my future?  I would have thought that it was obvious by now, your friend is dust, and so are you."  She brought the stake up and dusted him before he had a chance to react.  Dru looked around and saw that the other two were closing in on her position, trying to corner her.  She headed into the classroom.

When the four vamps left the library, Angel and Buffy were able to turn the tables just enough to get a few of the weapons they had layed out.  She tossed the crossbow to Giles.  Buffy and Angel took weapons more suited for hand-to-hand combat, stakes being high on the list.  The battle continued, but now the slayer and her friends had the advantage.  They finally got control and dusted the last of the vamps, before taking a breather.  Everyone sat down and looked at each other.  "Looks like she led us into a trap Angel.  I guess the change wasn't permanent.  I'm glad that Willow missed this.  I guess now we know what she meant with the cryptic message."  Angel looked around him, something just didn't seem right about the attack.  "Buffy look around you.  We were attacked by a dozen vamps, and only dusted eight of them.  Where are the other four?  I heard a locker slam in the hall right before the others left.  Why would anyone come to the school this late, and slam their locker right before summer break?  It doesn't make sense."  Giles nodded at Angel's words.  "He does have a point Buffy.  I think we should wait for a while longer, before jumping to any conclusions.  We'll wait here and see what she wanted when she gets here."  Buffy sat down.  She wasn't going to argue with what was said, it did make sense after all.

Dru watched from the darkness as the last two vamps entered the classroom.  She was still outnumbered, but she knew that if she could get to the library, there were weapons in there.  She waited till they were far enough away from the door before slipping out of it.  She closed it and headed to the library.  The vamps heard the door being shut and chased after the one who closed it.  Dru got to the library with them right on her heels.  She stopped just inside the doors, not even paying attention to the fact that the fight here was already over.  Buffy and the others were shocked with the fact that Dru had just run in, and stayed quiet.  They still were uncertain if she had sent the vamps to start the fight or not.  Dru had dropped her stake on her way there, but wanted to fight her attackers anyway.  She knew that one of them had picked it up and was hoping to be able to use that to her advantage.

The vamps ran into the library and went right for Dru.  She stood her ground and sidestepped one of them as they attacked her.  As he hit the floor, the other attacked, with Dru's stake.  He pinned her to the ground and turned the stake towards her.  She was able to turn the stake towards him and dust him with it.  She turned to the one she had sidestepped.  Buffy and Angel had sprung into action when they saw that Dru was fighting with the other one.  They quickly got rid of the vampire that was on the floor.

Buffy and Angel backed away from Dru.  They went over and sat down near Giles.  Dru looked at them, and pulled a chair out from one of the other tables.  She sat it back in the same spot that Angel had placed it the first night she ever came here to tell Giles about the changes in her life.  She looked into the eyes of the three that were here, and she knew what they were thinking.  They thought that she sent the vamps to attack.  She wasn't sure what to say, but she would tell them everything they wanted to know.  "I know you think I sent these guys after you, but I didn't.  Those were Spike's men.  He sent them to get rid of the competition.  He knows that I had a decision to make and probably thought that if you were killed it would make it harder to want to return to what I was supposed to have been.  I didn't know that he was going to that when I told everything.  He still doesn't know my final decision though.  I wanted to tell you first.  I want to return to being a slayer, if I can be Buffy's partner.  I also would like it if you would train me, Giles.  I'm not sure what the council would say about this though.  I don't want you in any trouble over this.  If they won't agree to it, then that's ok.  I'll still help.  I have been helping in secret for the last few weeks.  I stay in the shadows, I've taken to some areas that are a little less frequented.  I'm staying at a motel on the outskirts of town.  I'll give you the address and phone number to reach me at.  I won't bother you till I know of your decisions concerning what I have just asked of you.  I know that what happened tonight has put a strain on things.  I am sorry, if I'd have known that this would happen, I wouldn't have told Spike.  I'll leave now.  The address will be on this chair.  Stop by whenever."  Dru got up and laid a slip of paper with her address and phone number on the chair she was using.  She walked towards the doors to the library and turned.  "I'm going to tell him of this choice as well.  I promised him that I would.  Be careful, he may try again.  Bye."  She left quickly and left to find Spike.

Buffy, Angel and Giles looked at each other for a few minutes.  Once the shock wore off, they started weighing pros and cons about having Dru join them in a slayer capacity.  The discussion lasted for hours.  Angel left about an hour before sunrise.  He went back to the mansion after seeing both Buffy and Giles safely home.  They all agreed that it would be Angel who would deliver the final message to Dru.  Giles wanted to check on a few things before making his decision though.  Angel would go and talk with Dru again soon, that much he knew.  He was going to try to get her to return to the mansion with him.  She didn't need to be alone right now, especially when she told Spike about her choice. He was afraid that he would attack Dru while she was alone, and right now, she just didn't have the skills to deal with him.

Dru found Spike in the park after she left the library.  She walked over to him.  "Spike, I've decided.  I'm going back.  I've already told Buffy and Angel.  Your attack on them was uncalled for.  I had already decided this beforehand.  I helped them to kill the vamps you sent after them.  I got three of them myself.  I'm a slayer at heart.  I'm sorry but I won't be returning to Brazil with you, or to your side.  I am different now, I have different ideas than you do.  I'm here in peace this round.  It may not be so in the future.  I'm moving on.  Please, just accept that.  I want you to leave me and my friends alone.  I'm going to go now, goodbye, Spike."  Dru left him quickly.  She didn't want to take a chance of him attacking her.  She returned to her room and went to sleep quickly.  She had been up for over 24 hours and tired.

Spike stood there stunned, the one thing that he thought would never happen just did.  Dru was leaving him.  He wasn't going to let that happen.  He made a decision to visit an old mage that owed him quite a few favors.  He was going to find a way to steal Dru's soul from her, and that would be the one who could do so.  Spike didn't care if the spell cast hurt or not, he wanted his Dru.  He knew that some magic that was used like that could cause great pain, but he was willing to make the sacrifice for his Dru.  He got into his car and headed to L.A. to get his friend.  This was the one time he wouldn't do as she asked.  He wanted his Dru back, and it was just a matter of time till that became a reality.
