Part 13

The plane ride home was uneventful.  Everyone joked and laughed, even thought they were a little worse for the wear.  Angel sat quietly, his Slayer safe in his arms.  He had known all along she would triumph over Leonna, he had had no doubts whatsoever.  Okay, so maybe there had been a few.

She stirred slightly in her sleep, repositioning her body so she could be as close to him as possible.  He chuckled softly and kissed her head gently.  He looked up to see Katrina standing in the cockpit doorway, gazing at him intently.  He gave her a smile and she smiled back, although hers was filled with sadness.   He wondered what her story was. Why she had such a sad look in her eye.

She turned away and he knew he’d never know the answers to his questions.  He hoped she would find peace.

Arriving back in Sunnydale, they were greeted by Joyce Summers, Kendra, and her Watcher.  Dead tired, they answered the questions before going home.

“I’ll call you tomorrow, Buffy,” Willow promised as she climbed into Oz’s van.

“Okay,” Buffy replied from her mother’s car.  Angel sat next to her and Katrina was in the front seat, Buffy’s mom had offered her a place to stay for the night.  Cordelia peeled out of the airport parking lot with Xander in the car.  Giles stood, waving goodbye to them all before heading to his own car.  He thought briefly about Katrina, but his thoughts were centered around Jenny  Seeing her had given him a strange sense of peace, but he knew his grieving had just begun.

“Angel, I have some appointments set up for tomorrow for you to look at some houses,” Joyce said as they drove home.

“Thanks,” he said gratefully.

When they got home, Buffy and Angel went straight to bed.  They cuddled underneath the covers, thankful to be home and in one piece.

“Big day tomorrow.  You’re coming, right?” he asked as he drifted off.

“I’d better.  If it’s up to you, you’ll have a house with no windows and black walls,” she joked.  He laughed.

“Thought so.  I need your help, plus you have to like the house.  I know you’ll be spending a lot of time there,” he said as he gave her a soft kiss.

“You’d better believe it,” she replied.  They fell asleep, silently thanking the powers that be that they were alive, safe, and in each other’s arms.

Where they were meant to be.
