Making the Grade

Willow sighed to herself as she walked into the computer room.  It was empty, seeing as how classes were over and all the normal kids had gone home, or on to do other normal teenage things.  They probably weren't even thinking about computer class.

But Willow was. She looked at her... Ms. Calendar's old desk, and saw the thick stack of papers just *waiting* to be graded.

She sighed again.  It was moments like these that she wished Principal Snyder hadn't even thought of asking her to substitute until a new teacher arrived.  She had admitted that she did enjoy teaching... a lot, in fact.

But did she have to grade papers?  It wasn't like she didn't have hours of her own fun homework waiting for her, and her slayerette committments were becoming more hefty as they tried to guard against Angelus.  And of course there was Oz, who had a gig that night at the Bronze that she had been planning to attend.

The very thought of her boyfriend sent a small smile across Willow's face.  < Oz... >  She thought dreamily, taking another step into the dim computer room.  She shook her head, forcing herself out of her daydreams about her boyfriend, and switched on the light. She then sat down at the desk, pulled out a couple of pens, a Key to the test she'd be correcting, and a sheet of gold stars, and got to work.

Three tests later, she was at her breaking point.  The repetition of marking X's and C's, and the smell of her red permanent marker were making her slightly dizzy.  She glanced longingly at the laptop, wondering what sort of fun techno-pagean sites were awaiting her, and then glanced towards the door, wishing that Buffy or somebody would come and save her from this awful fate.  No such luck.  She got back to work, and finished grading another test.

"Hey."

The voice startled her. She jumped in her seat, and then whirled around to face the person.  Her face instantly softened, and she smiled, when she saw her boyfriend leaning casually against the doorframe.

"Hey yourself." She said, her voice not able to hide all her weariness.  "Whatcha doin'?"

"Well, up until about ten seconds ago I was looking for you." He said, and he smiled. "What about you?"

Willow sighed, glancing back at the stack of papers before her.  "Doing teacher-like stuff."  She put the pen down, deciding she could afford a break.  "I had to give a test a couple days ago, and I've been putting off grading them."

Oz looked curiously at the stack, taking a step into the room.  "You want some help?" He asked, noting the weariness in his girlfriends eyes, and that she had a long way to go before she'd be done.

Willow's eyes lit up at Oz's offer.  "Yeah!" She replied enthusiastically.  Oz pulled up a chair beside her and sat down, looking at her for further direction.  She handed him a pen, smiling happily at him, and handed him a stack of the papers, placing the Key in between them.

"Okay, so just... check the answers on the test with the ones on the Key, and when you're done, tally all the answers up.  It's out of 120 points." She explained, quickly. Oz nodded, and they both got to work.

For the next 45 minutes, Willow and Oz sat, quietly, grading the tests.  Willow stole glances over at him, smiling to herself, and, unbeknowst to her, he did the same.

Finally, Oz put down his pen and leaned back in his chair.  "Well, I'm done."

Willow looked over at him, marked one for answer, and then put down her pen as well.

"Me too." She said, leaning against the desk, stretching out her back. She smiled at him.  "Thank you so much for helping.  There's no way I would have finished today."

Oz smiled at her, taking her hand in his.  "No problem.  Glad I could help.  Snyder shouldn't expect you to be able to handle everything yourself, anyway."

Willow beamed at Oz, and then noticed that he had a small pen mark next to his lip.  She leaned forward, and began to rub it gently with her thumb.  Oz looked at her, perplexed.

"You've got pen on you." She explained.  It began to come off, and she kissed the corner of his mouth, only half-heartedly trying to get rid of the mark.  A thought occured to her. < Smoochies. >

She kissed him again, her lips moving closer to the center of his, her hand traveling up to carress his cheek.  She then settled her lips firmly onto Oz's, and waited to see if he would respond.

Oz wasn't exactly sure what had brought this on, as he pressed his lips gently against hers, but he wasn't going to let the moment go.  He moved closer to her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck as they began to kiss.

Before she knew it, she was sitting in Oz's lap, his arms around her waist, and in the middle of a fairly intense smoochie session.  She wasn't complaining, though, as she ran her hands over his face.

< Wow Wow Wow... > She thought, as she felt Oz's lips leave hers and travel towards her jawline.  She ran her hands through his reddish blond hair, taking the opportunity to catch her breath slightly.  Oz gently nibbled on her ear, and she gasped.  She pressed her lips against his, as he softly caressed her back.

They were so engrossed in each other, that they didn't hear the footsteps coming down the hall.

Buffy walked swiftly down the hall, trying to keep her mind off thoughts of her ex-boyfriend turned demon.  She had more important things to think about then.  Like finding her best friend, and getting her to come to the library and help Giles before she was stuck doing it all by herself.  She turned on her heel into the computer room, not really paying attention, or seeing anything but a bunch of computers.

"Hey, Willow!" She called, and then her eyes settled on the hacker and her werewolf boyfriend, who were making out.  She opened her mouth to say something, but no sound came out, as the couple swiftly pulled their lips off of eachothers, and looked at Buffy, their eyes both wide in surprise.  "Oh."

"Hi Buffy." Willow said, her voice slightly higher than she'd intended it to be.

"Hi Willow." Buffy smiled, meekly. "Hi Oz." She looked at the guitarist, who was serving as a seat for Willow at the moment.

Oz nodded.  "Hey."

All three of the teenagers looked at eachother, embarrased, for a moment, and then Buffy took a step back.

"Right, okay.  I'm just gonna... go now... to the library.  Oh yeah, Willow... and Oz, too-- Giles wanted you to... come because he wanted some--help.  Yeah." She nodded, taking another step back.  "Just--uh-- just take your time, you guys..."  She blinked, and then sprinted down the hall towards the library, unable to keep a small smile off her face.

Willow turned back to Oz, smiling goofily at him, running a thumb over his cheek.  He returned the smile, lacing his fingers in hers and kissing her knuckle gently.

"I'll let you go." He said, some what reluctantly. "I gotta go put some stuff in my van for the gig tonight, but I'll come after I'm done."

Willow nodded, placing a small, chaste kiss on his lips.  "Okay." She was still grinning, happily.  "Hmm..."  She reached over, and got the sheet of gold stars she'd gotten out earlier.  She then took one sticker off, and placed it on Oz's cheek, kissing him again.  She thought for a minute, and then handed him the whole sheet of shiny gold stars.  She took his hand, kissed it, and then leaned in closer to him.

"You get an 'A'." She told him, and she climbed off his lap and walked out of the room and down the hall, still grinning.

Oz watched her go, perplexed.  He looked at the stars, and then down at the graded papers.  "Willow..." He called, confused, standing up and walking towards the door. "I'm not even in your class..."

THE END

Willow: "He said he was gonna wait until I was ready, but... I'm ready, honest!  I'm good to go here!"

Buffy: "I think it's nice that he's not just being an animal."

Willow: "It is nice... he's great! We have a lot of fun.  But I *want* smoochies!"

Buffy: "He'll come around.  What guy could resist your wiley Willow charms?"

Willow: "At last count?  All of them.  Maybe more."

Buffy: "Then none of them know a thing.  They all get an 'F' in Willow."

Willow: "But I want Oz to get an 'A'!  And... oh, one of those gold stars."
