Wake Up 4: A Dream Come True

Disclaimer: Don't you even *think* it!  I'm a good person and I would never, *ever* do anything this evil!  I just try and fix things!

Author's Notes: There aren't even enough words to describe how much this denial fic is needed.  In fact, it's not even enough, but I don't know if enough is possible, so this is trying to offer even the slightly bit of comfort to others who are as emotionally wiped out as I am at the moment...

"Never forg—"  Buffy sat up on the sob—all her soul revolted against the loss.  Not now, when she had found him after so long—and whacked her head against something hard.

"Ye gods, that hurts a lot more as a human," a familiar voice muttered.  Buffy giggled, diving under the covers to avoid his grasping hands, seeking to tickle her.  Laughing, she rolled over and pinned him beneath her.

"Weakling boy," she teased, before she lost the grin and her face became serious.  "Angel, I had this horrible dream."  He freed one of his hands and reached up to stroke her face.

"It was just a dream.  No more horror, I promise."

"But it felt…the demon had come back and you went to fight it, but you were hurt.  The Oracle said I would be killed if you stayed human, so you asked them to change you back.  And they changed time, so I didn’t even remember.  I didn’t even know, I just walked away…"  Buffy felt Angel touch her cheek and realized they were wet with the tears she’d shed as she dreamed, and fresh ones at the memory.

"No crying," he said softly.  "I went and saw the Oracle again.  That’s where I was."

"What did they say?" Buffy asked in a whisper, afraid of the answer.  But Angel smiled.

"That this was a gift, and would harm no one.  And that even humans could sometimes be Warriors."

"We’ll just have to get you to the gym," Buffy laughed, relief filling her.  She sat up and pulled him up beside her, stradling his lap.

"Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth," Buffy informed him, wraping her arms around his neck.

"You can do anything you want to my mouth."

"I might have to take you up on that offer," Buffy murmured, placing butterly kisses on his chin.  His stomach growled loudly and Buffy collapsed on the bed, giggling.  He laughed and pulled her up, slipping her arms into one of his silk robes.  She wrapped it around herself, pouting.

"Do we have to get up?" she asked mischieviously, looking up at him with twinkling eyes.

"Don’t you want to go out to lunch…in the sun…And plan my triumphant return to Sunnydale?"

"Hmm…I suppose…"  She wrapped her arms around his waist and got on her tiptoes to kiss him.  "And I should at least go say hello to my Dad.  I could introduce you, now that you’re no longer Hellspawn?"

"I might be persaudable."  His stomach growled.  "If we can eat first."

"Pig," she accused cheerfully.

"Human," he corrected her.  She looked up at him with love and joy shining in her eyes.

"Right," she agreed softly.  "Human."
