Always Remember

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Angel.  They belong to 20th Century Fox, Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy.  I am using them without permission, however I am not making any money off them so please do not sue me.

Author's Notes: This takes place after Lonely Hearts.  This is my first official Angel fic.  Scary huh?  Well, I thought I could take the ending and slant it towards Buffy and Angel.  And voila!  I did it.  Enjoy.

“Hey.” Kate said, poking her head through the door of Angel’s office.  “I hope you don’t mind that I stopped by.”

“No.” Angel said, turning on a light.

“Why were you sitting alone in the dark?  That is if you don’t mind me asking, I’m just curious.”

Angel smiled a little.  “I think better this way.”

“Is that what you were doing?” She asked.

Angel nodded.  “Yeah.”

“By any chance were you thinking about the blonde?”

Angel looked at her for a minute, puzzled.  “The blonde?”

Kate looked down at the ground.  “When I was searching your apartment, I saw this picture.  It was of this blonde girl.  She was really pretty, and looked really happy.  You kept it in your bedroom so I assume she meant something to you.”

“Buffy.” Angel said softly.  “Yes, she meant something to me.”

“Sister?” Kate asked hopefully.

Angel shook his head.  “No.  She was my everything.  You see, I wandered for a few years pretty much doing nothing, being nobody.  Then I met Buffy, it was like I was finally coming to life.  She was my life.  I love, loved, her with my entire being.  She taught me how to how love.”

“Is she dead?”

“No.”

“Who broke it off?” Kate wondered, sensing that Angel was still attached to her.

“I did, It was what was best for her, that’s why I moved to L.A. I needed to give her a chance, and I knew from experience that we’d never break the mould if I didn’t go.”

“What do you mean?”

“We had this happen of splitting up and then finding ourselves back together only a few weeks later.” Angel admitted.

“Oh.” Kate said, she looked into Angel’s eyes.  “Are you still in love with her?”

“I’ll always be in love with her.” Angel answered sadly.

“That’s my cue to leave.” Kate said, standing up.  She turned to Angel.  “If I stay I’ll want more than it looks like you’ll ever be able to give me.”  She walked out of the office.

Angel watched her go, his mind somewhere else.  The place he wished he could be, with her.

He knew that he’d always remember her, and every detail of the moments he spent with her.  Because he loved her more than life itself, and you didn’t forget that kind of thing.

THE END
