Ashes to Ashes

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  They belong to 20th Century Fox, Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy.  I am using them without permission, however I am not making any money off them so please do not sue me.

Author's Notes: I got the idea for this while reading the new Buffy Book “Obsidian Fate.”  Awesome book by the way.  Anyway what if Buffy had staked Angel when he had turned bad?  Really angsty.  Enjoy.

She plunged the stake into his heart, watching as he crumpled to dust.

In that last second Angel was back.  “I love you.” He whispered as he crumpled into dust.

He was dead, she had killed him.

She carefully scooped up his ashes and put them in a baggy.  She carried them to the cemetery and looked around, after a moment she found the grave they had made out against the night he told her he couldn’t have children.

It had been the last time they had ever made out here.  When she found it she couldn’t resist a bitter laugh.

It said In Loving Memory, it was as if they had been warned.  They just hadn't listened, and look where it got them.

She opened the bag and let his ashes blow into the wind.  She started to cry as she watched them, he was lost to her forever now.

She could only cry in private, only mourn by herself.  Because she knew that the others wouldn’t feel the same way, they wouldn't shed any tears for him.

Well maybe Willow, but that was it.

One day she’d tell them how she felt, but right now she would keep it to herself.  Only her diary would know how she truly felt about having to do this.

As she straightened and went to leave, she remembered what ministers said at funerals, earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.

That’s what had happened hear.

She stood for a second an said it aloud.  “Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.  Goodbye Angel.” She said as she left the cemetery and returned to the world where she could not mourn for him.
