Part 1

“Oomph!” Buffy gasped as she hit the ground.  Not even an hour back and she was already being attacked by some idiot vampire.

As the vampire lunged at her, she rolled over, and jumped up right back on to her feet.  He landed on the ground right beside her.  As he got up, she did a roundhouse kick across the right side of his face.  He attacked her, and sent her flying into a tree.

“Don’t you know you’re not supposed to hit girls?” she asked as she got up.

“You’re not an ordinary girl, Slayer,” the vampire hissed.

“You know what?  You’re right.”  As she said that, she plunged a branch that she had pulled off of the tree into his chest.  There was a scream, and then ashes.  “I’m not,” she said as she stepped on the ashes and continued to walk towards Giles’ house.

“What the bloody hell?” asked Giles as he went to go to the door.  It was three o’clock in the morning, and someone was knocking at the door.  As he opened the door, a grin widened across his face.

“Buffy!  You’re here!  You…you came back!”  He stood there, with tears in his eyes. There she was his Slayer.  He was her Watcher.  She was like a daughter to him.

“Where have you been?  We’ve all been looking for you!”

“I went to go live with my dad in LA, but the house was swarmed with cops, so I left.  I went to Nevada to live.  There were some people there who offered to take me in.  I never told them why I left home, but when they were watching the news one night, they recognized me in the picture.”

“You know,” she said with a sarcastic sound in her voice.  “I don’t know how they recognized me.  Those pictures had the hair all wrong.  I mean HELLO!  I would never wear my hair like that!”

Giles just sat there staring at her trying to recover from the shock of seeing her again.  Then he snapped out of it.

“Why don’t you come to school tomorrow?” he asked.

“Uh, what about the people?  You now, especially Snyder?”

“Oh, he was killed.”

“Was it vampires?”

“No, he was killed in a car wreak.  He was driving on the streets trying to find you when his car spun out of control.  He had to be going about ninety.  They buried him three weeks after you left.  Nobody showed except for a few of the staff and a family member or two.”

“I guess he really wasn’t that popular in school,” she said not knowing what to say.  She was sad, but with the hate she held inside of her for him, she couldn’t help but smile a little.

She suddenly came out of her own thoughts when Giles started speaking again.  “You must come to the library and step up your training.  I know it’s been hard, but there still isn’t a Slayer here, and vampire activity has been picking up.  They are planning something, I can feel it.”

“Okay,” she answered and strolled off into the night.
