New Beginnings

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  They belong to 20th Century Fox, Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy.  I am using them without permission, however I am not making any money off them so please do not sue me.

Author's Notes: Okay, this is the first in a series.  It deals with Buffy and Angel’s lives if he stayed human in I Will Remember You.  In this story Doyle and Angel are both free of The Powers That Be.  Angel’s human and Doyle doesn't get visions any more.  It makes more sense that way.  This is pure Buffy/Angel fluff meant for those of us who didn’t like the ending to I Will Remember you.  It was too cruel.

“Well, whatever happens from here on out at least I’ll be able to say goodbye to the bone-crushing, head-wrenching, mind-numbing visions.” Doyle told Cordelia and then he waited a minute.

He wanted to be sure that The Powers That Be didn’t just decide to play with them, that it was really over.  It was, no vision.

“It’s over.” He whispered.

“What?” Cordelia asked.

“I was afraid that the Powers That Be would give me a vision anyway, just to say nah nah.  But they didn’t, it’s over.”

“I’m glad.” Cordelia said. “I really am, I’m glad for you, Buffy, Angel, but what about me?  Your lives are all getting better, but mine’s getting worse.”  She whined.

Doyle smiled sympathetically.  “I’m sorry, I’m sure you’ll find something.”

“Yeah.” Cordelia sighed, and then got up.  “Let’s go.”

Doyle nodded and followed her.

“Angel?” Doyle called the next mourning, walking into Angel’s apartment.

“He’s in the shower.” Buffy told him as she came out of Angel's room dressed in just a robe.

“Cordelia was right then.” Doyle commented.

“Must happen sometimes, but what was she right about?” Buffy asked with a smile.

“She said that she bet you two were doing more than just talking, something about the forbidden love of all time.”

“She’s right. It’s been so long, we’ve been through so much, and now we get this.  It’s like a miracle.” She gushed.

“What’s like a miracle?” Angel asked as she came out of the bathroom.

Buffy put her arms around his neck.

“This.” She told him, before giving him a gentle kiss.

Doyle felt like he was intruding and went to the door.

“Bye.” He told them, they didn’t even hear.  He smiled and left.

Buffy and Angel were so wrapped in each other they didn’t even notice, all they could think about was each other.

Angel picked Buffy up and carried her back to bed.  This was good.  They could be together and nothing would happen.

It was like a miracle.

“I love you.” Buffy whispered as Angel lay her on the bed.

“I love you.” He told her softly with a kiss.

It was like a new beginning for them.
