Gifts of Fate

Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  They belong to 20th Century Fox, Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy.  I am using them without permission, however I am not making any money off them so please do not sue me.

Author's Notes: This is an alternate ending to the Fate Series.  It follows Just the Beginning, A Little Bit Closer, Perfect Moments, and Closure.  If you want unbearable angst, read Fate’s Cruel Twists. But if you like happily ever after's then this is the story for you.  For a brief recap this series is an alternate to Angel, he’s not a vampire.  In the end he and Buffy get their happy ending.  The actual wedding ceremony was taken from the program of my cousin’s wedding.  I’m not Catholic so to me the long ceremony was extremely boring, so that’s how I came up with Buffy’s reaction.  Oh, and since this story takes place in an alternate time line Cordelia never found out on the night of The Spring Fling.  Instead I have her learn later on, but she and Xander are together for this story.  I explain how at the beginning.  Oh, and no Oz.  I couldn't figure out how to get him in to the plot.  Sorry.  Enjoy.

Dedication: Dedication- To all my fellow B/A fans who are trying to deny the current storyline.  Especially Felicity and Serena, this is for you.  And to Megan and T.S. for listening to my constant babble and helping me with this story.  I couldn't do it without you.

“You look beautiful.” Willow said as she helped her friend get dressed.

“You do.” Cordelia said with a smile.

Buffy watched Cordelia with surprise.

Cordelia had only recently become a member of the Scooby gang, when she started dating Xander.  But even that was a big shocker.  Cordelia Chase and Xander Harris an item, wow.

The two had been trapped together in a cave during their senior class camping trip.  Soon after she learned about Buffy being a slayer, she was actually fairly accepting.  Now the old Cordy was gone forever and she was actually a nice person.

But back to today, she was going to marry Angel in only a few short minutes.  It seemed too good to be true, but it was.

The and Angel were getting married.

***

Angel watched his bride with love and adoration.  She was perfect, a flawless diamond in the ruin of his life.  He promised to never hurt or betray her.

She smiled happily as her father placed her hand in his.

“I love you.” She mouthed.

“I love you.” He mouthed back, she smiled and turned to face the priest.

“We are gathered here today to witness the joining of Elizabeth Anne Summers and Angelus James Fielding in holy matrimony.”

Willow smiled with happy giddiness for her friend.  She was glad that Buffy had what she always wanted, if only the same could happen for her.

She glanced over at Xander with a sad smile.  Even after all these years she would still give anything to have him notice her, but no his heart belonged to Cordelia of all people.

It wasn’t fair.

The priest began his prayer.  “Father, hear our prayers for Angelus and Elizabeth, who today are united in marriage before your alter.  Give them your blessing and strengthen their love for each other.  Amen.”

Buffy didn’t pay much attention to the rest of the ceremony, then it was time for them to exchange vows.

“I, Angelus Fielding, take you, Elizabeth Summers, to be my wife.”  Angel repeated after the priest.  “I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health.  I will love and honour you all the days of my life.”

Buffy looked Angel in the eyes and repeated after the priest.  “I, Elizabeth Summers, take you, Angelus Fielding, to be my husband.  I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health.  I will love and honour you all the days of my life.”

“You have declared your consent before the church.  May the lord in his goodness strengthen your consent and fill you both with his blessing.  What God has joined, men must not divide.  May I see the rings?” He asked, Xander and Willow each handed him one.

“Lord, bless and consecrate Angelus and Elizabeth in their love for each other.  May these rings be a symbol of true faith in each other and always remind them of their love.  We ask this through Christ out lord.  Amen.”

“Amen.” Repeated the congregation.

He handed the rings to Buffy and Angel and instructed them on what to say.

Angel looked deep into Buffy’s eyes, a look of pure love on his face.  “Elizabeth, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

Buffy gazed up at Angel.  “Angelus, take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

The service went along for a while after, Buffy had never realised how long Catholic ceremonies were as this was her first time in Catholic church.  Angel was Catholic and requested that the ceremony be held in a Catholic church.  Buffy really didn’t care either way and agreed.

Finally after what seemed to her an entirety the priest began the final blessing. “Amen.” Said the congregation.

“May your children bless you, your friends console you, and all men live in peace with you.”

“Amen.”

“May you always bear witness to the love of god in this world so that all the afflicted and needy will find in you generous friends and welcome you into the joys of heaven.”

“Amen.”

“May almighty God bless you, The Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen.”

“Amen.” Repeated everyone.

“You may kiss the bride.” The priest said softly, and Angel leaned down and gently kissed his bride.  Then the pianist began the recessional and they began to leave the church.

Once they were outside Angel looked at her with love and devotion.  “I love you.” He told her softly.

“I love you.” She said warmly, gazing up at her husband.

He husband.  It had really happened, she and Angel were married.

She thanked Fate and whatever else it was for leading Angel to her.  If their two paths hadn’t crossed this day never would have happened.

She was so glad they had, she loved him so.

THE END
